Happy Birthday...

to my Nan...

5 months and 1 week without you.

If I close my eyes I can still see you, I can still hear you and I can still feel you there, holding my hand. It is like you never really went away.
I still cannot really believe that you are gone. I know that sounds silly. I mean, I should have accepted the fact by now, but I haven't. I still can see you, sitting in your chair, watching countdown or the Snooker. Hula hoops on your fingers. Or a Ham sandwich using the warburtons loaf that Christopher picked up in Sainsburys for you. You have a cup of Yorkshire Tea, which is stood on the table next to you. And beside that is a pile of £2 coins and a strip of scratch cards. It is so clear in my mind.

But there is something wrong. Something that keeps telling me that you are not sat there. There is no phone call. Your key is no longer sitting next to mine...

It is horrible, having your birthday yet not having you. It seems wrong. The day shouldn't go on without you.

The only thing that keeps me going and gives me comfort is knowing that you no longer hurt. You are free. And you deserve that after all you went through.

I love you.

The last day...

of school :(

Lewis was sad to leave Mr. Goodchild's class but was soon dancing around with Squirrel's bells, putting on a show for me. :) Awesome performance! Thanks Lew!

I was very sad to see Christopher leave Nursery. I am not sure how he will settle into Reception. He is a smart cookie and I know he is so ready in that respect. I am amazed at some of the things he knows. But emotionally is a totally different story. He is painfully shy around others (not that you would believe that if you saw him at home!).

It seems like yesterday that he started Nursery. I was worried about him going. I pictured him crying, clinging to my leg. But he actually settled in much easier than I expected. Yes, he was always quiet, not really talking and not joining in with much. But inside he was happy. He liked Nursery. He always said he 'had fun'.

I am so grateful to all of the staff in the Nursery. Those who spoke kind words to him when he was upset. Those who gave him a cuddle when he needed it. Those who offered encouragment when he stood by, watching others play. Those who would hold his hand and run with him when he was afraid to do it alone. I thank them all. You made such a difference, even if it seemed like you never really got anywhere with him. Trust me ~ you did.

Sports Day ~ Christopher....

Today was Christopher's first sports day. I was a bit worried because when he practiced at Nursery he cried. So what would he be like with all the parents watching?

He did GREAT!!!!!!! He ran, by himself, and didn't cry at all!

*Woot woot* for Christopher!!!!!

(If I can get the camcorder onto here I will add some clips later)

and Lewis has done well!

Lewis brought home a really good school report. And he also found out that his teacher next year will be the same one he had last year. He is REALLY happy about that!

Some parts from his report: Literacy

Reading: Lewis is an excellent reader. He has fantastic expression and can sustain his concentration during reading times. Lewis had done exceptionally well with the conprehension quizzes he has taken on the online reading scheme. I am very pleased with his progress and I am really proud of him.

Spelling & Handwriting: Lewis is a wonderful speller and this is shown in his weekly spelling tests. He makes every attempt to spell unknown words with a mixture of success and has good spelling strategies. Lewis does however need to develop his handwriting style.

Speaking & Listening: Lewis is a quieter member of the class and would benefit from adding more to class discussions. Lewis is good when listening to others in the class but rarely contributes without prompting.

Maths

Mental Maths: Lewis can mentally add and subtract 2 and 3 digit numbers, count back in tens, hundreds and thousands and can recall his 2,3,4,5,6 and 10 times table with speed and accuracy. He has scored very well in mental maths tests.

Calculations: Lewis can use all 4 operations to solve calculations and can apply this to solving word problems. He listens well and has coped well with all the year 3 learning objcetives.

Shape & Space: Lewis can suggest suitable estimates for amounts and lengths of objects and measure them accurately. He can name and identify the properties of 2d and 3d shapes and can recognise and sketch lines of symmetry.

And the basic comments for the remaining subjects...

Science: Lewis has tried very hard in all areas of this subject, he grasps scientific concepts well and can makes sensible predictions and draw his own conclusions.

ICT: Lewis uses the computer competently and confidently and is able to use word processing, databases & email. He can manipulate text appropriately and can search well to gather needed information.

Art: Lewis has worked well in art and his efforts inthis subject really have improved. I am very pleased about this. He has had a lot of success creating an abstract design and producing a print from his template.

French: We have started learning French this year and Lewis has put in a lot of effort. He is keen to join in and can introduce himself and talk about the weather.

History: Lewis has thoroughly enjoyed History and our work with the Tudor times. He has worked well when learning about Henry VIII.

Music: Lewis has always been very sensible and focused during music lessons and can work well with instruments.

P.E: Lewis really enjoys P.E and is able to perform a variety of skills with quality & control. He works well as part of a team and is very active during lessons.

Personal, Social & Health education: In year 3 Lewis has looked at health & safety at school and at home. He has talked about different people who are there to help us. Lewis has shown that he can be caring and considerate to others which reflects his personality. He is able to express his relationships with others.

General Comment: Lewis has been an absolute pleasure to teach. He is a good friend to others and seems to enjoy school life. I wish Lewis luck for next year and hope he can continue to work hard and do well. Well done Lewis for all your effort.

Finally. His test results.

Level 2 ~ level for a 7-8 year old.
Level 3 ~ level for a 9-10 year old.
Level 4 ~ level for an 11 year old.

A= Top end of level
B= Secure within level
C= Lower end of level

Reading: Level 3a
Writing: Level 2a
Maths: Level 3b

Lewis has just celebrated his 8th birthday ~ for those who are now sat thinking 'How old is he again?'....LOL!

Reports are in...

Yes ~ today is report day. I have Christopher's with me and Lewis will bring his out from school when I collect him today.

Christopher's is very sad. :*(

It is a 'Photo' report, showing him doing various things around the nursery (playing with the sand, building a tower with blocks, counting, writing his name, at the snack table & cutting and sticking). Underneath each picture it says things like: I can count up to 20 and beyond. I can find the right amount of items to go with the number...etc.

At the bottom it has 'Personal comments'. This reads: Christopher came to nursery as a very quiet little boy with very little confidence. His confidence is growing as he has settled well into nuresry. However, he still needs some encouragement and support to join in the activities available with other children. As Christopher's confidence improves I am sure he will flourish in Reception next year; good luck Christopher, we will miss you.

Parking...

on the grass. Grrrrr!

It is crazy lately. Outside there are spaces for 10 cars. The spaces were designed for people living in where I do. Yet out of those 10 spaces 6 of them are filled with people who live out on the street. Leaving just 4 spaces for the ones they are meant for. So I am on the grass....

Not a happy bunny!

BANG!!

Oh what lovely little boy I have! He likes to play 'bang!' He clenches his little fists and yells 'BANG' and likes you to do the same and play 'boxing with him' ~ tapping his fists with yours saying 'Bang bang bang'.

Today I tried to get him to take his nap. If he naps too late he goes to bed late ~ and we ain't having that!!! So I laid down next to him, telling him to 'Shhhh'. Everything was nice and quiet (I almost nodded off myself!) and he was still. I felt him start wriggling so opened my eyes to see him staring right at me, fists cleched, smile on face. 'Bang' he yells ~ all excited. I say 'No. No bang, lay down and shhhh', and I close my eyes again. He then punches me in the mouth....LMAO!!!!

When Squirrel wants to play Bang ~ he WILL play Bang!

Blink and you may miss it!

Now you are wondering what on earth I am talking about! Right? The weekend. Where did it go? One moment it was Friday evening ~ the next it was Sunday evening. The inbetween bit seemed to just fly by.

What a miserable couple of days (weather wise). Rain, rain and a little bit of rain. It shouldn't be like this in July! We saw a couple of wedding cars go past on Saturday. And I felt so sorry for them. All that planning and then to be greeted by rain and wind. And in July. We started talking about OUR wedding, which was in May. We had the most fantastic weather. Seriously, it couldn't have been better. And the day was just PERFECT. Everythig about it was just faultless. Even the hotel we chose. It was stunning, and we had it all to ourselves. Lots of the family had rooms so we all had breakfast together the next day. The owners just let us get on with it and do what we wanted. Including the crazy things like seeing who could slide down the banister the quickest *hee hee*. I really must try to add some video clips from our day onto here.

Here is a picture. The quality is terrible because it is a pic of a pic and the flash kept reflecting so I had to turn it off...

Anyway. Back to the weekend. Mum & Mr. T came round today ad we played 'Golden Balls'. Mum stole and Mr. T (trusting her when she said she would split) split. Shame on you Mum! LOL!

Happy Birthday *Baby* Boy :)

19 years! Wow! It hardly seems possible. If I sit and think back, I remember like it was yesterday. My adorable, sweet, precious baby boy. All 6lbs 11ozs of him. I remember being so scared, I didn't have a clue what to do with this little person. I think we taught each other in those early weeks & months.

I remember clearly this time 18 years ago. My baby boys first birthday. It was a chilly day, he wore a little sailing boat cardi. I walked down to see my Nan, who then lived down the road from me. And then we went to the park. He wore a big badge saying '1 today'.

We have been through so much together in these 19 years. Shared so many smiles, and a fair few tears too. There have been some tough times. There have been some magical times. But through it all, no matter how much has changed, the one single thing has remained the same. The fact that I love my boy with every inch of my heart.

Crealy Park

On Saturday we went to Crealy for the day with my sis, her daughter Rebecca and Ken (not the icecream man but the bacon sandwich delivery guy). Lewis took his friend, Bailey. He had the choice of a birthday party or taking his best friend with us. It was a great day and we all had a blast!!! Following photos are courtesy of Tracey as I never took my still camera, just my camcorder ~ so Thanks to her!

Rebecca and Lewis attempting to get me wet. Ha ha ha! Yeah right!!!
